Marble — from the Greek "mármaron", meaning "shining stone" — has been synonymous throughout history with elegance, tradition, fine art and refined taste.
Think Taj Majal or Michaelangelo's "David".
Marble's low index of refraction, allowing light to penetrate the surface before being scattered back out is what gives marble its characteristic waxy look and gives it a certain feeling of being alive.
A very dense and easily polished metamorphic rock, marble is easy to maintain, while its relative softness allows for a wonderful flexibility in both interior and exterior design.
The use of travertine in architecture and design dates back at least to when the Romans mined deposits of this special form of limestone for building temples, aqueducts, monuments, bath complexes and amphitheaters.
Travertine continues to be one of the most frequently used natural stones in modern achitecture, including facades, wall cladding and flooring. It's also a favorite for paving patios and garden paths.
Travertine's characteristic pitting and surface troughs suggest age and wear, giving it a very natural and comfortable look. When filled and polished to a smooth and shiny finish, it becomes almost interchangable with marble and granite.
We here at PANDO FLOORING pride ourselves as quality experts on the wide variety of uses for both of these exquisite natural stones in both residential and commercial applications.
